No general dental-assistant CE license. Maryland instead certifies Dental Radiation Technologists, who need a 2-hour infection control course each renewal (plus one-time implicit bias). No CE-bearing 'dental assistant' category with a broad hour requirement.

Renewal cycle & mandatory topics

2-year cycle running Jan 1 through Dec 31 of the following year; CE must be completed by Dec 31 of the year preceding the renewal year. Dentists & hygienists: 30 hrs. Mandatory each cycle: 2-hr infection control course; must maintain CPR/BLS certification without lapse (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or ARC Professional Rescuer — online CPR NOT accepted; CPR earns NO CE credit). Every OTHER cycle: 2-hr 'Abuse and Neglect as it Relates to Maryland Law' (dentists AND hygienists) and 2-hr 'Proper Prescribing and Disposal of Prescription Drugs' (dentists ONLY; optional for hygienists). One-time implicit bias training required before first renewal/reinstatement on/after Apr 1, 2022. Self-study cap: up to 17 of the 30 hrs. Optional: up to 4 hrs cultural/linguistic competency + military culture combined; up to 8 hrs pro bono. Records kept 5 years.
