Update note
Chapter 64B27 is no longer in the Florida Laws and Rules exam scope
Study Chapter 456 and Chapter 466, Florida Statutes, and Division 64B5, F.A.C. — the current published scope. Prep still teaching 64B27 dental-laboratory rules, or "64 items" for the dentist exam, is citing a retired 2019 booklet.

What changed
The ADEX/CDCA vendor page — the exams' current governing scope statement — lists the Florida Laws and Rules content sources as Chapter 456, Florida Statutes; Chapter 466, Florida Statutes; and Division 64B5, Florida Administrative Code. The legacy 2019 Candidate Information Booklet additionally listed Chapter 64B27, F.A.C. (Dental Laboratories); that booklet is retired, and 64B27 appears in neither the live scope nor the exam rules. For the hygienist exam, Rule 64B5-2.0135(2)(b) codifies the three-source scope, and 64B5-2.0135(2)(c) caps Chapter 456 material at 3% of the exam.
Item counts also moved with the vendor page: up to 67 multiple-choice items for the dentist exam (FDLR) and up to 64 for the hygienist exam (FHLR), each including up to five unscored field-test items — not the flat "64 items" the 2019 booklet described.
Why it matters for exam prep
- Time spent memorizing dental-laboratory registration rules from 64B27 is time taken from the areas the exams actually test — delegation, supervision, records, prescribing, discipline, and CE.
- The 3% Chapter 456 cap on the hygienist exam is a published weight — the only one Florida publishes — and it should shape hygienist study priorities.
What to purge from old summaries
- "The Florida exam covers 64B27 dental laboratory rules."
- "The dental exam has 64 questions" (2019 booklet framing; the vendor page now says up to 67).
- Any study plan built from the retired 2019 CIB rather than the current vendor page and rule texts.
