Florida's dental exam rules were amended effective June 1, 2026

Study the 64B5-2.013 and 64B5-2.0135 texts in force since June 1, 2026. The written Laws and Rules exam and its 75% pass mark were expressly unchanged; the edits update licensure cross-references and tighten the hygiene remedial-course rule.

What changed

Florida's examination rules for dentists (Fla. Admin. Code R. 64B5-2.013) and dental hygienists (R. 64B5-2.0135) were amended with an effective date of June 1, 2026, at the end of their five-year statutory review. In 64B5-2.013, the substantive edit updates the out-of-state clinical-exam cross-references in subsection (1)(e) — the reference to repealed provisions and to Rule 64B5-2.0152 was stricken. In 64B5-2.0135, the remedial-course rule for nonaccredited-school graduates who fail the clinical exam was reworded and now requires passing the 20-hour remedial coursework with at least 75%.

The parts candidates care about most did not change: the Written Examination remains "the laws and rules of the State of Florida regulating the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene," and the pass mark remains 75% or better on both exams.

Why it matters for exam prep

  • Prep material citing 64B5-2.013 or 64B5-2.0135 should cite the texts in force since June 1, 2026 — rule-history lines ending "6-1-26."
  • The amendment cycle is proof the Board actively maintains these rules; material built on the 2023 versions is now one revision behind.
  • Nothing in the 2026 amendments moved the exams toward open-book or at-home delivery: they remain closed-book, computer-based exams at Prometric test centers.

What to purge from old summaries

  • Citations to Rule 64B5-2.0152 (stricken from 64B5-2.013(1)(e)).
  • Any claim that the June 2026 rulemaking changed the exam format, length, or pass mark — subsection (2) of 64B5-2.013 was expressly marked "No change."
