Payment deadlines
- Electronic claims
- 15 calendar days (filed electronically)
- Paper claims
- 30 calendar days (filed in writing)
Unless a contract specifies shorter timeframes, an entity must reimburse a claim that is not contested or denied within 30 calendar days of receiving it in writing or 15 calendar days of receiving it electronically (§431:13-108(b)). To contest or deny, the entity must notify the provider within 15 calendar days for a written claim or 7 calendar days for an electronic one — unless it sends the provider a reimbursement report containing that information at least monthly. Payment is effective on the postmark date or the date of the electronic transfer.
