# INBDE Pacing Calculator: A Time Budget for Both Exam Days

A free, no-signup pacing calculator that budgets all six INBDE sections against the official clocks. The user sets a target seconds-per-question for standalone and case questions plus a per-section review buffer; the tool computes each section's budgeted minutes, remaining review margin, and flags any section where the pace plus buffer exceeds the clock. It is arithmetic on published session timing — a budget, not a prediction.

- Day 1: 360 questions in 420 testing minutes (official average 70 s/question) plus 60 scheduled break minutes.
- Day 2: 140 questions in 210 testing minutes (official average 90 s/question) plus 15 scheduled break minutes.
- Day 2's case clock (90 s/question) is 15 seconds tighter than Day 1's case section (105 s/question) — the check this tool exists to run.
- Whole exam: 500 questions, 630 testing minutes within 750 total administration minutes.

## Scheduled break cadence

- Day 1: 15-minute scheduled break after Section 1.
- Day 1: 30-minute scheduled break after Section 2.
- Day 1: 15-minute scheduled break after Section 3.
- Day 2: 15-minute scheduled break after Section 5.

## Inputs and method

Inputs: target seconds per standalone question (45–150; the derived official average is 63 s), target seconds per case question (60–180), a review buffer per section (0–30 minutes), and an optional "official pace" mode that budgets every section at its own derived official average. Method: budgeted minutes = target pace × questions ÷ 60; review margin = clock − budget; a section is flagged when budget + buffer exceeds its clock. Inputs are encoded in the page URL so a budget can be copied and shared as a link or as plain text.

## Limits

The tool computes no score, probability, or outcome. Official averages include chart-reading time on case sections, so individual questions vary around them; the tool budgets whole sections, and pacing on test day is best checked at case boundaries. Holding a pace in the calculator is not evidence of holding it in an exam room.
