# INBDE for International Dentists: Where It Fits

A common U.S. advanced-standing pathway includes a foreign transcript evaluation, the INBDE, program-specific English-proficiency requirements, an ADEA CAAPID application, and a DDS/DMD advanced-standing program. Requirements vary by program and licensing jurisdiction.

## Facts to verify before planning

- The INBDE is accepted in all U.S. licensing jurisdictions as all or part of the written-examination requirement. It is not the only licensure requirement.
- The 2026–27 ADEA CAAPID fee is $264 for the first program and $115 for each additional program. Supplemental fees are separate.
- TOEFL requirements, accepted evaluators, bench tests, tuition, program length, and class size are program-specific. Use the [live ADEA CAAPID information](https://www.adea.org/home/application-services/international-dentists/adea-caapid-applicants) and Program Finder.
- Minnesota publishes a [limited-general-license pathway](https://mn.gov/boards/dentistry/new-applicant/limited-general-license/) for some graduates of non-CODA programs. Eligibility is case-specific and includes Board evaluation, examinations, and supervised practice.

## Preparation implications

Use all 10 official Foundation Knowledge areas as the content map. If foundational coursework is not recent, rebuild it before relying on timed question blocks. Reserve sustained practice for Day 2's 140 case items and learn to consider the entire Patient Box.
